The feather-light, semi-transparent structure of the Spun carbon fiber chaise longue belies the extraordinary strength of the carbon. Bengtsson spins a single carbon fiber into a slender, mesh-like layer that weaves a cylindrical shape. The flexibility of the mesh moulds to the body as it cradles the sitter in the same comfort that would be afforded by a sprung base.
Bengtssons Spun chaise is in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Manchester Art Galleries, England. It was exhibited at the major survey "European Design Since 1985: Shaping the New Century" at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Denver Art Museum curated by R. Craig Miller.
