Moss Gallery presents a diverse edition of highly evocative domestic repositories in wood (burned or otherwise), paper, textile, clay, a variety of plastics, resins and metals, and glass, created by the artists, architects, and designers Hella Jongerius, Job Smeets, Maarten Baas, Shiro Kuramata, Sean Yoo, Massimiliano Adami, Andrea Salvetti, Konstantin Grcic, Gaetano Pesce, and Michele De Lucchi.
Nothing is more conventional than a storage container, that ubiquitous functional object - chest of drawers, book shelf, sideboard, wardrobe or toy box - continually being reinvented to display, organize, protect, or hide our various possessions. Domestic "containers" commonly reflect fairly prosaic concerns, such as space saving, cost, or the ability to 'blend in' with a set décor. The storage elements shown here were not created to 'blend in'. These extremely diverse repositories - executed in wood (burned or otherwise), paper, textile, clay, and a variety of plastics, resins, and metals, are, in fact, very expressive, and highly evocative. Each container exhibited here, though shown empty of any tangible contents, already 'contains' much.
