Fernando and Humberto Campana

Bernardaud, the French porcelain manufactory, was founded in 1863 and has been family owned and operated to this day. The current director, Michel Bernardaud, is the fifth generation to become the head of the porcelain manufactory. Under his direction, in 2002, he founded the Bernardaud Fondation d'Enterprise, a foundation to augment the company's position as one of the most innovative French producers of porcelain. Through this foundation, Bernardaud invited artists who do not normally work in the ceramics medium to collaborate with the manufactory on limited edition works. This collaboration enriches the designer's experience and challenges the Bernardaud porcelain masters. A few of the artists who have worked with Bernardaud under these auspices are Agnes Turnauer, Hervé Van der Straeten, Mattia Bonetti, Olivier Gagnere, and Zao Wu Ki. This centerpiece is their latest collaboration, with Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana; already this work is part of the collection of the Museum of Art & Design, New York and has been exhibited at the 2009 retrospective of the artists' work at the Vitra Design Museum entitled "Antibodies".
