Jouins stool, SOLID S1, is fabricated with different type of rapid prototyping technique from the other pieces in the Solid collection. It uses a Polyamide powder as opposed to the Photopolymer liquid used in stereolithography. The advantage of this technique is the self-supporting characteristic of the material although it cannot handle very large pieces. The primary structure of the stool is its interior a bone-like configuration of forms that are extremely light and strong. These support the secondary structure of the object- its thin outer skin takes the shape and feel intertwining roots.
