The Quilted Vases are soft upholstered versions of one of Jongerius’s previous works - the Red White Vase, designed by Jongerius in 1997 and produced in earthenware by Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, the Netherlands.
The vases are upholstered using prototype Layers textiles, developed over the past three years in collaboration with Maharam. They are each unique pieces and are part of a limited edition of fifteen.
In 2009 The Indianapolis Museum of Art acquired a Quiltled Vase for their permanent collection. It was exhibited in the museum's show European Design Since 1985: Shaping the New Century curated by R. Craig Miller. The 2009 exhibition will travel to the High Museum in Atlanta, Denver Art Museum, and Kingston University, London with possible future stops in Europe and Asia.
