Perished was conceived as a suite of furniture, including a table, traditional Dutch bench, screen, and pedestal, realized in precious hardened tropical woods, decorated with laser-cut inlays depicting animal skeletons, and assembled by expert craftsmen.
The Pedestal displays a cast bronze plate depicting, along with various other symbolic and iconic images, the cockroach, ancient survivor which refuses to perish.
"Perished" has been shown extensively since its 2006 debut at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Moss has presented pieces from the suite at
Dutch Masters and
STUDIO JOB 2006-2008: works in paper / bronze / wood / clay as well as at Moss Los Angeles for
Glitter & Smoke and
Design Miami / 2006 and
Design Miami/Basel 2008. Other important exhibitions include
Telling Tales, at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London,
Alter Ego at Gaasbeek Castle, Belgium and the retrospective
Bold Designhuis Museum, Eindhoven, Netherlands.
