info@moss-gallery.comMORE IMAGESIn To Be Continued, Carretero explores issues of control and perfection in serial production. Using the repetitive actions existing within the production process as a tool, ironically, for highlighting differentiation as opposed to regularity, multiple casts in a polyurethane composite, variously coloured, are layered one on top of the next, creating a long series of slices which cause these remarkable works to gradually mutate - in a sense, imperfectly designing themselves. The first slice is made using a rigid mould; all subsequent slices are made with flexible moulds, which, along with use of an expanding, foamy composite made from a polyurethane resin specifically created for this purpose, result in the obvious variations in each slice. Like a game of Pass the Secret, each successive slice is cast from the mutant previous slice; each layer influences the design of the next section of the work.
